Steps to Peace with God
A Christian is a person who accepts (obeys) Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. The Bible (Old & New Testaments) presents complete and reliable information on the life, teachings, death, resurrection, and second coming of Jesus Christ.
In order to become a Christian, you stop trusting in yourself and your good works to get you to heaven because the Bible says they won’t get you there. Instead, you place your faith in Jesus, God’s Son who died on a cross in your place. Here’s how.
1. Understand and know that God loves you.
The Bible says in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
2. The Bible says we are all sinners and that it’s our sins that keep us from going to heaven. In Romans 3:23, we read: “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
3. In order to go to heaven, our sins have to be paid for. Since you can’t, Jesus did: “But God
demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Rom 5:8).
To receive God’s free gift of salvation, you pray asking Him to forgive your sins. You then ask Jesus to come into your heart and give you the free gift of eternal life. “That if you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved” (Rom 10:9).
